“Where does the end of the sea begin?
From here, so far away and yet present, it is like an unfolding wave, arriving here whose resonance of an echo would affirm the presence.
Behind the sea, silence is in order, opalescence the desired tonality, black, shadow and transparency the basic vocabulary.
Like an invitation to dive towards the heights, the expedition is that of an escape beyond limits, from the highest to the deepest, rocking behind the horizon.
Each pictorial place is the object of meditation, of drifting, even of infinite shifts of thought… Offering a bouquet to the sky, or feverishly taking on the task of considering the world on a human scale. The oceans are measured in liters and fit into bottles, the sky is counted in shades and fits into a case. The mountain takes shape at arm’s length and takes you with you.
The lines taken, moved, inked, are the memory of various journeys, of absent limits… where the idea of infinity invites itself discreetly like a poetic meditation. »

For its February 2017 exhibition, entitled Derrière la Mer , the Galerie de Beuil is pleased to welcome two young contemporary artists whose debuts are hailed by critics.
The exhibition is organized in partnership with the Eva Vautier Gallery in Nice.
Anne-Laure WUILLAI (born in Versailles in 1987) Course: ENS Cachan.
Graduated from the University of Quebec. Graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Paris.
Anne-Laure Wuillai deconstructs the daily structures that govern our lives: diaries, calendars, school notebooks, grids, schedules,… in order to give back its place to the human. The banal objects that she installs are so many challenges to our body, that is to say to what looks but is also looked at, to what sees but does not see itself (except in a mirror). Playing with norms and the normative, she traces the paradox of our presence in the world, a presence torn between freedom and constraint, the self and the other.
Benoît BARBAGLI (born in Nice in 1988) Background: Graduate of Villa Arson. Photographer, performer, traveler.
Barbagli’s work is a performative work, that is to say a staging of both himself and sea and mountain landscapes. It is similar to Land Art, but a Land Art that would reveal a deep spirituality. By involving certain gestures or certain positions of his own body in all its purity and nudity, his photographs speak a metaphorical and symbolic language. With it, we are caught up in the vibrations of the cosmos and we penetrate into the memory of the world. “The soul is a function of the body,” said Darwin.

Shape of a Mountain
Shape of the Mountain is a project initiated in Nepal, through a trek around the Annapurna range of the second Himalayan massif.

The fall of the ink and the aspect of the ground form the sacred imprint of this vertical earth which captures from the mountain its vertigo and its fall, its geological time and its limitless space. The fertile mountain gives birth to the substrate which is deposited on the canvas: the wood which grows on it thus becomes ink.
Vision of the sublime in Kant, it exceeds the capacity of the human mind to think it, to represent it. This is how the artist’s gesture disappears to let its formal singularities express themselves.
In a meditative Zen momentum, it recalls the approach of Chinese calligraphers who seek in their gesture the feeling of emptiness.
